Stick Out Your Can

CD Storyville 103 6102

If you want to start the day well and come into a good mood this could be the record to put on. Classic sessions with the New Orleans greats recorded in their own town or in San Francisco between 1945-55. It’s the second set of the record company Storyville’s tribute to the Revival. The repertoire itself on this double CD consists of well known numbers sometimes called “war horses” but here they are still played with energy and enthusiasm.

Oscar Celestin, Kid Ory and Paul Barbarin are among the band leaders, but I’ve chosen to put focus on the band of Sharkey Bonano. The leaders trumpet is full of fire in this medium tempo blues number from 1952. Another thing about the live recorded track is the positive atmosphere that you can feel through the ages.
