From the Studio #20

Guilty

An improvising musician has his own style depending on what he has heard, his progress on his instrument, and what goes on in his mind. What comes out also depends on the situation. On a gig, there are other musicians and an audience that have significance, and then there is also a development, warming up, getting into it, a climax, relaxation, and in the end maybe tiredness. In front of a mike in a studio, it’s different. You’re alone with your spontaneous ideas unless you have prepared something. I’m testing this by making just one take, and I do not prepare anything. If it’s good or bad, entertaining or not, it’s not up to me to say. I just hope that I’m not guilty of repeating myself too much.
