From the Record Shelves #9

Just a Gigolo

The recordings made on the American West Coast has always had a positive flavor of “Sunny California” to my ears and on this LP the major part were recorded there by Bing in company with Gus Arnheim’s swinging orchestra.

Even in 1931 we get a feeling of well-being which is further enhanced by the title of the record. But yet I have chosen to present a tune that is full of sadness because it shows how Bing Crosby with his golden voice was able to tell a story and deliver a definite version of a song that for generations only is known from a show version by Louis Prima.
