Black Dog Blues
CD Document Records DOCD-5062
Among the good music on this CD there is the ragtime guitar master Blind Blake who is in a class by himself.
Further on the disc, there is this track that made me think of early Bob Dylan. I don’t think that he would have minded the association because he got his early musical inspiration from recordings like this, and he often played them later in his radio show.
But this is not the 1960s, it’s 1930, and the guitar and vocal artist is called Bayless Rose. We don’t know anything about him except that he recorded four numbers in Richmond, Indiana. It’s said in the comments to the record that he was probably white and came from, or had a connection to, Virginia.
