Medley
LP London Records HA-U 2189
Biopics are more or less irritating, but much is forgiven in this one because of the good acting of Danny Kay and the participation of Louis Armstrong. Maybe it should be seen as a film loosely inspired by the life of Red Nichols or even better as a tribute to the subject. And the authenticity is bestowed by the fact Nichols plays the cornet himself on the soundtrack. He is in good shape and worthy of a comeback on stage and records at this time in 1959.
Some of the singing duets between Kaye and Armstrong that are included in this soundtrack LP have to be seen, but other things work well if you take it as light entertainment. There are two lullabies, and in this medley you get both of them, Goodnight, Sleep Tight and Lullaby in Ragtime. It is very relaxed and pleasant to listen to, I think.
