Panama
LP Jazz Panorama JPLP 8
Here is another short and lively rendition of the traditional jazz tune Panama. Orson Welles’ is the announcer who lets you know the personnel of “The New Orleans All Stars.” Big names that either have kept themselves in shape or come back to it in 1944.
The clarinet player is considered one of the best three in the style, and the trombonist has no peer, while the trumpet player could have been at least one of the top ten within the harder competition if he had recorded in Chicago in the 1920s.
The drummer could also be considered one of the top three, and the others in the rhythm section are absolute elite players within this genre that is called New Orleans Jazz.
But the real important thing is what they create together, and it is wonderful to hear it in a live recording since the ensemble gets loose, then gets strongly nit together several times.
In short, a classic, recorded in Los Angeles on April 12, 1944.
Unfortunately, the combination of Jimmie Noone and Kid Ory is a rare combination in the history of recorded jazz.
