Since the ensuing records of “Paul and his Gang” became rather successful, we thought that it, at more than 30 years of distance, would be interesting to release the band’s first session in the order that it was recorded.
We were a small group of Bix fans that spent a summer evening in 1991 recording in a suitable hall in the Music Academy of our hometown, Malmö.
The reason for this was that we had come together to play at a Bix Beiderbecke memorial concert at the school’s jazz club the year before, and we wanted to document the music and eventually go further to new public venues.
As a result, we were selected to play in Breda, Netherlands, at one of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe, and while participating in the old-style jazz contest, we were given the first prize.
The band continued to play and record for about ten more years, and one highlight was to play in Kenosha at Phil Pospychala’s Bix celebration in the year 2000, when we also played in Chicago, Davenport, and Toronto.
