This was recorded in 1923 in Paris by Mitchell’s Jazz Kings. A name to mention is the trumpet player Cricket Smith. He was born in 1883, and he was the uncle of Arthur Briggs, another trumpet player who came to live in Paris. Before WWI he played with Jim Europe, and later he played with Leon Abbey’s orchestra in India, and he died there in Bombay in 1943.
In this early version of the attractive tune we also hear a slide whistle of the same type that Louis Armstrong used at the time, and I also must mention the drumming of the bandleader Louis A. Mitchell.
