Swanee River

LP Storyville/American Music master 825

I love the rhythm of this! I don’t want to go into details or try to prove that it is better than any other kind of jazz. I just say that it is a pure form of expression in music, that it makes me feel happy, and that listening to it is a great way to start the day.

Bunk Johnson, trumpet; Jim Robinson, trombone; George Lewis, clarinet; Lawrence Marrero, banjo; Alcide Pavageau, bass; Baby Dodds, drums.

Recorded in George Lewis’ home at 827 St Philip Street, New Orleans on May 14th, 1945.
