When it says “University Six,” you’re counting on Adrian Rollini for the musical excitement. He starts on xylophone, inspired. Then Arthur Fields sings, as he does on many of those recordings, and after that you hear that the bass sax of Rollini is coming along. There is some of the whimsical saxophone work by Bobby Davis to enjoy, and then the highlight in the jazz meaning is the break by Rollini at the end. He never disappoints me, fine ideas and perfect execution.
The year was 1927.
