I Know That You Know

LP Alamac QSR 2403

The opening chorus of the first tune on the LP reminds me of Cotton Club Stomp with Duke Ellington’s Orchestra. It may partly be due to the recording quality of the transcription because this is in the early forties about ten years later and played by Bob Crosby’s Orchestra, a band that mostly did ”orchestrated Dixieland.”

After that, we hear a piano solo by Jess Stacy, and then Irving Fazola, who had a free role in the first chorus, takes a chorus on clarinet. Other players of that instrument that have used this particular tune to show off their technique are Jimmie Noone, Sidney Bechet, and Benny Goodman.

After that, another New Orleans musician, Eddie Miller, takes a solo on tenor sax, well supported by Stacy.

In all, a very lively and inspired performance.
